Hey MO,
 
If your boss can't trust _you_then why should they  ....  :-)
 
Maybe he would trust the local CompUSA (oops, OOBusiness).
 
If you are local to Providence area, I found a shop in S. Attleboro area which does some repairs (on Washington Street 2 minutes from Memphis Road House heading to RI). 
 
I think it is this one:
 
Computer Exchange 

728 Washington Street (Rt 1)
 
I only visited *once* but the kid in there seemed decent (he was being eyed by the boss as he was talking to me, which made me think he was TOO decent).
 
Anyhow, there are definitely local places around.  HTH,
