Please join us next Monday, Feb 11th at 1730 at AS220 for Dan King's talk on penetration testing. Dan is lucky enough to get paid to do penetration testing for a living at a leading managed security service provider. "Getting started with penetration testing can be a challenging task. Only by using a layered, structured approach can we deal with this mountain of data. Quite often new and complex vulnerabilities are daunted and difficult to wrap our brain around, but by taking things one step at a time, we can slowly pull the layers of the onion apart. This talk hopes to provide people with a rough structure and a method of getting their feet wet. I hope can spark conversation and discussion." As usual, we have the performance space from 1730-1900. The talk will start around 1800. Show up early, grab a beer and join in the pre- talk socializing. /ducksauz -- John Duksta DC401 Organizer Monkey/Benevolent Dictator -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Everyone, including myself, is usually hella busy on Mondays with work, making it hard to get out in time for the meeting. Additionally, it would be nice to be at AS220 on a night when the Taqueria is open so we can stick around and eat and drink there after we're done in the performance space. I'm a big fan of the Fez, but I'd like to be able to give AS220 more of our food and drink business in return for them being gracious hosts of the meeting. Thus, effective in March, we now have the first Wednesday of the month for the DC401 meetings. /ducksauz From matt at hackistan.us Tue Feb 19 11:00:07 2008 From: matt at hackistan.us (Matt) Date: Tue Feb 19 11:32:57 2008 Subject: [dc401-l] Larry on Hack-A-Day Message-ID: <20080219160007.GB7113@hackistan.us> Looks like Larry's Shmooball cannon made it to Hack-A-Day! http://www.hackaday.com/2008/02/17/the-2008-shmooball-gun/ I still think it would have been more fun to shoot spuds out of it. :) -MB From larry at pauldotcom.com Tue Feb 19 12:42:40 2008 From: larry at pauldotcom.com (Larry Pesce) Date: Tue Feb 19 12:41:49 2008 Subject: [dc401-l] Larry on Hack-A-Day In-Reply-To: <20080219160007.GB7113@hackistan.us> References: <20080219160007.GB7113@hackistan.us> Message-ID: <6A48D104-3827-427E-8748-98B0038FD71C@pauldotcom.com> Skipped content of type multipart/alternative-------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... This month we have Nick DePetrillo and Tyler Whittaker presenting "The Internet is Serious F&*%ing Business". We'll have to wait for the talk to see where the good hack is (bring your ShmooBalls in case one is lacking.) Knowing NickDe's presentation style, this is guaranteed to be a laugh riot and should not be missed. "The Internet is Serious F&*%ing Business will cover the social internet as it stands today. Covering all aspects of the Social Internet trend from businesses built around the Social Internet and Web 2.0 applications to how Social Internet trends have changed our personal internet experience and the way we communicate with people."
