Then I saw this one shortly afterwards: http://www.instructables.com/id/3-Axis-CNC-Router---60x60x5--- JunkBot/?ALLSTEPS Which is awfully big, but more polished and could totally be done with scavenged metal. Since we'd be making a laser cutter, we wouldn't have to worry about Z-axis control, just switching the laser on and off. Brian and I think it would be a blast to make one of these, but on a smaller scale (like 11x17" or 24x24") with some of the Broad Street Studio youth. We could work as mentors and help them through the mechanical and electronics build process. It would be a great piece of community outreach for the group and a hell of a lot of fun. I'm guessing that we need 2-3 people who can *solidly commit* to one to two evenings a week (or maybe a saturday afternoon) for a couple of months to do this. That's a total shot in the dark for the time estimate, but it feels about right. We haven't brought this up with the BSS folks yet, as I wanted to gauge interest first. So, who's up to built a cool ass laser cutter for cheap and infect some teenagers with the technology bug? /ducksauz -- John Duksta DC401 Organizer Monkey http://dc401.org -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... It's looking like we're going to get hammered with snow again. Mitch is in the northeast through tuesday the 22nd. We could do it Thurs or Fri, but I won't be able to make it, as I'll be on the west coast. We could also have the meeting next Monday, the 21st, which is looking to be the best option, especially since they're forecasting more snow for Thursday. If the snow does magically pass us by, then Mitch will hop a train up from NYC and we'll still have the meeting as scheduled.
